Life After Asasi Tesl UiTM Lendu Part 2

Assalamualaikum and good day

You can refer to Part 1 here
So, I registered as UPM's student. I was placed at Kolej Serumpun with the rest of my coursemates. It was very sad when my family left. I almost cried, yes. Haha. New place, new environment and new friends. It was a new world to me. The first week, first semester was hectic. Everyone's busy with the course registration, exemption and so on~

Now, it all has become a history and I am very very glad and thankful that I survive. I could say that I've changed. A bit. Or perhaps a lot. Alright, now let's see the courses that my friends and I have been through in our journey being the Bachelor of Arts (English Language) students (shorten it to B.A.E.):

Semester 1
INTRODUCTION TO GENERAL LINGUISTICS
GRAMMAR FOR COMMUNICATIVE PURPOSES
PENULISAN BAKAT KREATIF
BAHASA MELAYU TINGGI

Semester 2

HUBUNGAN ETNIK

Semester 3
ARABIC II
ENGLISH PHONETICS AND PHONOLOGY
INTRODUCTION TO SOCIOLINGUISTICS
ENGLISH SYNTAX AND MORPHOLOGY
INTRODUCTION TO TRANSLATION
TERMINOLOGY

Semester 4
ARABIC III
SPEECH COMMUNICATION
INTRODUCTION TO PSYCHOLINGUISTICS
SEMANTICS AND PRAGMATICS
THE THEORY AND PRACTICE OF TRANSLATION
COMPUTER-AIDED TRANSLATION
ASAS KEUSAHAWANAN

Semester 5
INTRODUCTION TO DISCOURSE ANALYSIS
WRITING RESEARCH REPORTS
RESEARCH METHODS FOR LANGUAGE STUDIES
FUNCTIONAL ANALYSIS OF LANGUAGE
TRANSLATION OF THE MASS MEDIA
AUDIOVISUAL TRANSLATION

Semester 6
LANGUAGE AND POWER
MEDIA LITERACIES
FINAL YEAR ACADEMIC PROJECT
JAPANESE I
LINGUISTICS IN INTERPRETATION AND TRANSLATION
TRANSLATION QUALITY ASSESSMENT

Semester 7
SEMINAR ON APPLICATIONS OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE STUDIES
FINAL YEAR ACADEMIC PROJECT
INTERPRETATION AND TRANSLATION ACROSS CULTURES
SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNICAL TRANSLATION

So, starting from semester 3 students are require to take a minor programme/courses such as Applied Language Studies/ Translation/ Communication/ Writing or programmes allowed by the faculty to be taken as minor programme/subjects. And I took Translation as my minor. Apart from the courses, we also need to register for co-curriculum; compulsory 2 credit hours. However, the list of courses/subjects registered depend on the department. Some subjects are compulsory for this batch and some are no longer compulsory for the next batch. It depends. The faculty already lists out the subjects which students have to register so no worries about that :)

Good luck and all the best! ;)

P.S: The lecturers are nice.hihi

Hye. Umm I have a question to ask you. Is it compulsory to learn b.arab during degree years? Thank you

miradyana said...

Anonymous: Hye. Nope not compulsory. :) Kalau UIA mungkin.tapi UPM utk b.a english must reg for any language class such as french, korean, japanese etc

Assalam akak, among all the subjects that you have listed above, do we have to take all those subjects for one semester or we can choose any subjects that we want?

For example, there are six subjects in the first semester, so is it that we have to take all of them? Or we can choose like 4 out of 6 of them?

Wassalam. The subjects are listed by the faculty/english department. so you cannot choose. If u have to reg for 6 classes, 6 classes then. :) Because they are the compulsory subjects which u must take in order to fulfill the "syarat bergraduat". If not cannot graduate la dear. The subjects listed by the faculty varies depending on the batch. eg: there are certain subjects that are not compulsory for the seniors but compulsory for the juniors.
